The anti-EU protester/rioters may have been initially antagonized by the Gay March, yet the Pro-EU party may have set it up that way. You can be gay and anti-EU.

Gay rights is an issue that invokes vitriol and emotional reactions- thus a perfect tool to sway election in either direction. Everyone should take note of that. Ruling parties will bargain with devil to keep their power. Don't under-estimated the power of politics.

You are supporting a subtle eugenic idealism, that only the 'fit' and 'worthy' are allowed to participate and benefit in society. Others must be classified and subject to second or other class consideration upon application of the law. This is a dangerous slippery slope for everyone. Barring the 'unwanted' from equal application of rights will creates disunity and dysfunction in any nation and society.

To put it simply, what is forbidden for me will forbidden for you. Denying rights to others denies you the same. It just logical. Equal application of the law is what a civil society is about. That's a principal of a successful democracy and a true free society.

Pontificating a 'Brave New World' fear will not convince anyone. What you are talking about is evolution in human ingenuity. Your fear is based upon Western world view which has no basis in reality in the future of non-western societies. Western propaganda and fear mongering from what you say is a lot like Alex Jones.

Even in the worse case, someone lost for you to win, to have for you to receive or take a chance or opportunity.

Don't be so delusional to think that, be it either by the pure fortune of God or the hands of people in your life, you've done it alone. No one does.

I have wasted most of my day watching this debate, which is rich with info. These two, Tim Wise pro-racial equality and Jared Taylor pro-racial segregationist, are debating the validity of 'race' and discrimination.

I personally, professionally, and humanely believe that race is a social construct created to divide and conquer the oppressed. Race is not real nor is it genetic. As discussed in the other videos, even by a chemist, there is a minute difference between the 'whites' and 'blacks' in the US. Yet Jared Taylor in this video believes that because that there is a genetic predisposition (which is scientifically false) the United States of America with all of it's great wealth and hegemony, will turn into a 3rd world country, 'similiar to South America' he says, if whites do NOT wake up and realize what they are giving up.

Ironically, Jared Taylor would be blocked from traveling to Europe because of his beliefs and his espoused views, all on the cause that he would inspire hate speech and racial/ethnic violence. Isn't that funny? Pat Robertson wasn't allow to go to Jerusalem for espousing anti-Semitic views. I believe David Dukkke is blocked from some European nations. BP may have triggered the start of a Mass Extinction Event

Ominous reports are leaking past the BP Gulf salvage operation news blackout that the disaster unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico may be about to reach biblical proportions.

251 million years ago a mammoth undersea methane bubble caused massive explosions, poisoned the atmosphere and destroyed more than 96 percent of all life on Earth. [1] Experts agree that what is known as the Permian extinction event was the greatest mass extinction event in the history of the world. [2]

55 million years later another methane bubble ruptured causing more mass extinctions during the Late Paleocene Thermal Maximum (LPTM).

The LPTM lasted 100,000 years. [3]

Those subterranean seas of methane virtually reshaped the planet when they explosively blew from deep beneath the waters of what is today called the Gulf of Mexico.

Now, worried scientists are increasingly concerned the same series of catastrophic events that led to worldwide death back then may be happening again-and no known technology can stop it.

The bottom line: BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling operation may have triggered an irreversible, cascading geological Apocalypse that will culminate with the first mass extinction of life on Earth in many millions of years.

The oil giant drilled down miles into a geologically unstable region and may have set the stage for the eventual premature release of a methane mega-bubble.

Ryskin’s methane extinction theory

Northwestern University's Gregory Ryskin, a bio-chemical engineer, has a theory: The oceans periodically produce massive eruptions of explosive methane gas. He has documented the scientific evidence that such an event was directly responsible for the mass extinctions that occurred 55 million years ago. [4]

Many geologists concur: "The consequences of a methane-driven oceanic eruption for marine and terrestrial life are likely to be catastrophic. Figuratively speaking, the erupting region "boils over," ejecting a large amount of methane and other gases (e.g., CO2, H2S) into the atmosphere, and flooding large areas of land. Whereas pure methane is lighter than air, methane loaded with water droplets is much heavier, and thus spreads over the land, mixing with air in the process (and losing water as rain). The air-methane mixture is explosive at methane concentrations between 5% and 15%; as such mixtures form in different locations near the ground and are ignited by lightning, explosions and conflagrations destroy most of the terrestrial life, and also produce great amounts of smoke and of carbon dioxide..." [5]

The warning signs of an impending planetary catastrophe—of such great magnitude that the human mind has difficulty grasping it-would be the appearance of large fissures or rifts splitting open the ocean floor, a rise in the elevation of the seabed, and the massive venting of methane and other gases into the surrounding water.

Such occurrences can lead to the rupture of the methane bubble containment—it can then permit the methane to breach the subterranean depths and undergo an explosive decompression as it catapults into the Gulf waters. [6]

All three warning signs are documented to be occurring in the Gulf.

Ground zero: The Gulf Coast

The people and property located on the greater expanse of the Gulf Coast are sitting at Ground Zero. They will be the first exposed to poisonous, cancer causing chemical gases. They will be the ones that initially experience the full fury of a methane bubble exploding from the ruptured seabed.

The media has been kept away from the emergency salvage measures being taken to forestall the biggest catastrophe in human history. The federal government has warned them away from the epicenter of operations with the threat of a $40,000 fine for each infraction and the possibility of felony arrests.

Why is the press being kept away? Word is that the disaster is escalating.

Cracks and bulges

Methane is now streaming through the porous, rocky seabed at an accelerated rate and gushing from the borehole of the first relief well. The EPA is on record that Rig #1 is releasing methane, benzene, hydrogen sulfide and other toxic gases. Workers there now wear advanced protection including state-of-the-art, military-issued gas masks.

Reports, filtering through from oceanologists and salvage workers in the region, state that the upper level strata of the ocean floor is succumbing to greater and greater pressure. That pressure is causing a huge expanse of the seabed-estimated by some as spreading over thousands of square miles surrounding the BP wellhead-to bulge. Some claim the seabed in the region has risen an astounding 30 feet.

The fractured BP wellhead, site of the former Deepwater Horizon, has become the epicenter of frenetic attempts to quell the monstrous flow of methane.

The subterranean methane is pressurized at 100,000 pounds psi. According to Matt Simmons, an oil industry expert, the methane pressure at the wellhead has now skyrocketed to a terrifying 40,000 pounds psi.

Another well-respected expert, Dr. John Kessler of Texas A&M University has calculated that the ruptured well is spewing 60 percent oil and 40 percent methane. The normal methane amount that escapes from a compromised well is about 5 percent.

More evidence? A huge gash on the ocean floor—like a ragged wound hundreds of feet long—has been reported by the NOAA research ship, Thomas Jefferson. Before the curtain of the government enforced news blackout again descended abruptly, scientists aboard the ship voiced their concerns that the widening rift may go down miles into the earth.

That gash too is hemorrhaging oil and methane. It’s 10 miles away from the BP epicenter. Other, new fissures, have been spotted as far as 30 miles distant.

Measurements of the multiple oil plumes now appearing miles from the wellhead indicate that as much as a total of 124,000 barrels of oil are erupting into the Gulf waters daily-that’s about 5,208,000 gallons of oil per day.

Most disturbing of all: Methane levels in the water are now calculated as being almost one million times higher than normal. [7]

Mass death on the water

If the methane bubble—a bubble that could be as big as 20 miles wide—erupts with titanic force from the seabed into the Gulf, every ship, drilling rig and structure within the region of the bubble will immediately sink. All the workers, engineers, Coast Guard personnel and marine biologists participating in the salvage operation will die instantly.

Next, the ocean bottom will collapse, instantaneously displacing up to a trillion cubic feet of water or more and creating a towering supersonic tsunami annihilating everything along the coast and well inland. Like a thermonuclear blast, a high pressure atmospheric wave could precede the tidal wave flattening everything in its path before the water arrives.

When the roaring tsunami does arrive it will scrub away all that is left.

A chemical cocktail of poisons

Some environmentalist experts are calling what’s pouring into the land, sea and air from the seabed breach ’a chemical cocktail of poisons.’

Areas of dead zones devoid of oxygen are driving species of fish into foreign waters, killing plankton and other tiny sea life that are the foundation for the entire food chain, and polluting the air with cancer-causing chemicals and poisonous rainfalls.

A report from one observer in South Carolina documents oily residue left behind after a recent thunderstorm. And before the news blackout fully descended the EPA released data that benzene levels in New Orleans had rocketed to 3,000 parts per billion.

Benzene is extremely toxic and even short term exposure can cause agonizing death from cancerous lesions years later.

The people of Louisiana have been exposed for more than two months—and the benzene levels may be much higher now. The EPA measurement was taken in early May. [8]

Doomsday

While some say it can’t happen because the bulk of the methane is frozen into crystalline form, others point out that the underground methane sea is gradually melting from the nearby surging oil that’s estimated to be as hot as 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Most experts in the know, however, agree that if the world-changing event does occur it will happen suddenly and within the next 6 months.

So, if events go against Mankind and the bubble bursts in the coming months, Gregory Ryskin may become one of the most famous people in the world. Of course, he won't have long to enjoy his new found fame because very shortly after the methane eruption civilization will collapse.

Perhaps if humanity is very, very lucky, some may find a way to avoid the mass extinction that follows and carry on the human race.

I had discussion with my partner a couple of years ago about the impact the car v.s the train had on the American society. My partner explained and pointed out to me that Ford and the other car companies essentially subsidized and directed the construction of municipalities to accommodate and sustain the viability of the motor vehicle, personal or otherwise through infrastructure, laws, sub-industries, and lifestyle. We, the human race, are heading toward a damning age of scarcity, no matter which way you cut it.

So here's my question,

Since you (Ford) have been king of the road since your inception, why not now take the majestic leap and not only to assist, but be the harbinger of sustainability? Specifically, since through 2 generations of blood, sweat, and tears, we gave you the road through education of the usage of the vehicle, laws protecting it, and our embracing it as symbol of our sovereignty, why not create jobs, decrease pollution, further protect the environment and teach anew a respect for our resources by supporting, leading, and manufacturing high-speed rail systems that would rival China, France, Germany, and Britain? It is my belief that this would at least allow Ford to remain at the top, be morally profitable, and garner a greater respect from those that are fighting for a sustainable future for mankind.

I was shot down by a bank representative on Thursday about my account when I tried to reorder a bank card. From what I understood, my bank account may be shut because I am an American citizen. She kept repeating 'Qualified Intermediary' to me as I was trying lower my blood pressure (I just knew this was coming). She explained all US citizens of Bank Cantonal Vaudois (BCV) will be notified of their situation by letter, this month. She finished by apologizing and explaining that at this moment, BCV can not issue me a card because of the 'qualified intermediary' issue. Which sent me on very frustrating information search marathon.

The Qualified Intermediary (also known as an Accommodator) should be a corporation that is in the full-time business of facilitating 1031 exchanges. The role of a QI is similar to, but not identical to, the role of an escrow company.

Well I have been digging around and I have found that Charlie Rangel with HR 3933 and Max Baucus with S 1934 are planning to beef up the tax collection policies of the IRS by requiring that any 'qualified intermediary' to report on the account activities of all Americans doing business with them under FATCA. According to American Citizens Abroad, a non-profit advocacy organization for United States citizens,

'With regard to American citizens residing abroad, a group of major UK banks has already stated
that they will close accounts of American citizens if the proposed QI regulations of January 1, 2010 become effective. We know for a fact that Swiss, Dutch and Spanish banks are refusing American citizens residing in their countries as clients and are closing accounts. Do not forget that there are over 5 million American citizens residing abroad. These people need to maintain foreign bank accounts in the country where they reside to make current payments receive salaries and hold their investments. The proposed legislation and reinforced QI* regulations will make it all the more difficult for overseas Americans to maintain a bank account where they reside. '

This is what the bill does via Open Congress.com

Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act of 2009 - Amends the Internal Revenue Code to revise and add reporting and other requirements relating to income from assets held abroad, including by:
(1) requiring foreign financial and nonfinancial institutions to withhold 30% of payments made to such institutions by U.S. individuals unless such institutions agree to disclose the identity of such individuals and report on their bank transactions;
(2) denying a tax deduction for interest on non-registered bonds issued outside the United States;
(3) requiring any individual who holds more than $50,000 in a depository or custodial account maintained by a foreign financial institution to report on such accounts;
(4) imposing an enhanced tax penalty for underpayments attributable to undisclosed foreign financial assets;
(5) extending the limitation period for assessment of underpayments with respect to assets held outside the United States;
(6) requiring certain tax advisors who assist U.S. individuals in acquiring a direct or indirect interest in a foreign entity to file an information return disclosing the identity of the foreign entity and the individual investors;
(7) requiring shareholders of a passive foreign investment company to file informational returns;
(8) enhancing tax rules and penalties relating to foreign trusts with U.S. beneficiaries; and
(9) requiring withholding of tax on dividend equivalent payments received by foreign individuals.

The odds:

From my experience and business empathy, they will close my account. I don't blame them. I don't support tax evasion nor tax fraud. Yet, I don't support imposing laws that punish the innocent to justify the enforcement of laws broken by a few. It's inane and very draconian. Why should my bank keep me when it would be cheaper and less of a burden to force me to find another institution? Understood, but what I don't understand, why a blanket enforcement with such apathy for the complications that come along with such legislation?

To my friend Josh in China, this includes you. This bill does not specify nations, just American citizens. Banks will be hard pressed to find any benefit in assisting Americans with their finances if it means answering to the IRS (which in their eyes is a foreign tax collection agency with no true jurisdiction within their borders). I as well as any American abroad (I am not clear about service members, diplomats, corporations, private businesses, etc.) are being punished for a few bad apples. I pray I can find a banking institution that isn't repulsed by my citizenship.

Oh, about the american banks abroad, the common (mis)perception of any American abroad is that we are rich. That we work for some major corporation or on military leave. Last year my income was a record $25,ooo thanks to working as a receptionist for a Swiss owned and operated small business. The banks, American or international, have raised the minimum to astronomical levels- $250,000. This will insure that there aren't any shananigans. (I received email today from ACA.org with a list of banks and the minimum deposit requirements all were above $500,000 with exception of Charles Schwab- still developing).

In the end, the PosteFinance.ch, seems like a viable option. Crossing fingers.

If anyone has any info about this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. I will post the letter once received. I will pass more info upon reception on my end.

Recently in Switzerland there has been a few instances of political racism. This one below is the anti-minaret campaign. This has the support of the Peoples Party (SVP), a rightwing organization in the parliament here. The SVP is famous for 'wanting to keep the Swiss blood pure' and 'closing the borders to immigrants'. Both ads are considered extremely hurtful and flat out racist here.

This one below was circulating right at the time I was arriving in Switzerland. It drew protest in my neighborhood that year when the leader of party came to Lausanne to give a stump speech. My point to all of this is the whenever economic troubles are manifested the xenophobia is increased. Switzerland has been lucky so far, but this is the temperature of the racism and xenophobia that exist already during good economic times. Just imagine if Switzerland landed in the mire like US.

Now the video below shows what happens when the right-wing fringe and the racism combines with economic hardship. This is modern day nationalism. Something I see in the rhetoric of many American politicianss. Lindsey Graham's and McCain comments about Obama not 'being a Muslim because he's a good man'. The Joe Wilsons, the Michelle Bachmanns, and the Glenn Beck's of the the U.S. are creating the environment the video below enjoys. I don't want to infringe upon anyone's right to freedom speech but we should infringe upon the right to complacency of violence.

Does anyone find it odd that we spend most of our lives making them rich when the 'creator' has another purpose for us? As many of you already know, I live in a society that provides healthcare or mandates some for of health coverage. Listening to this debate in the US and the nut job byproduct arguments of right just test my faith in humanity.

During the abysmal years under Bush I read and watch discussions about the S-CHIP program and was appalled by the resistance of people to care for our young ones. Then it struck me that my fair nation is too greedy and profit driven to put things into perspective.

National security was a favorite talking point of Bush's talking heads. I have always wonder if the nations security is really on the agenda and a major issue why are we not making it mandatory that at least 90% of the US populace is prepared for a biological attack. You know, if people had an up to date status of their health they would be better prepared for such an attack. Or during the last 'bird-pig-chicken-cow-fish' flu wouldn't the US be better of if the system and the population had mutual trust and respect to prepare for something that could wipe out the human race. Doesn't the adage "we are only as strong as our weakest link" ( I don't know if that is right, but you get my point) mean anything?

Our strength is knowing and accepting our weaknesses. Our strength is not the lack of weakness but the ability and the access to pull on resources that can and will mitigate any damage from the weaknesses that we all posses. We are the ills' healthy counter part and vice versa. We learn from the care we give to the ill how to care for the ourselves and how they would care for us. Maturity and will are gained in the process thus giving us a stronger will to live and fight on. It's our human duty to respond to each with a sense of responsibility, to care for another. That other may be our strength and savior one day. The health-care debate, if not a smoke screen, is a dumb and baseless debate. It is indicative of how far out of touch we have become with each other, how much contempt we have for one another.

It's absurd and downright selfish to deny the rights that we enjoy from someone else. It is immoral, in my opinion, to not have a sense of responsibility for each other based on some preconditioned attitude toward that person. If we are intelligent or at least conscious of our frailty, the debate of caring for someone is a waste of time. The astro-turf protesters are exercising a derivative form of loud mouth bigotry, denying right or privileges to other groups based on their preconditioned attitude.

With that being said, I am in no way a blind supporter of anything the government does. I am the first to distrust the government, retain rigid skepticism, and question everything. This bill is not perfect but it bring the a real human issue to the table. It at least puts US back in the U.S.

He's right. I have been watching some the patriot sites since the fall of Bear Stearns (there is an intricate web of connection drawn to this with that- the New World Order, FEMA camps, fall of the dollar, Swine Epidemic, Iran, China) and I know that they will spin this into a threat against the 2nd Amendment.

With the current conditions in the US ripe with angst and anguish, it will only get worse with another unhappy, unemployed, disgruntled man (or possibly woman) losing their way of living and blaming the Magic Negro in office.

I as an observer will always be skeptical of the media, their tendency to overplay certain aspects of facts and not really paying much attention to the reaction, cause or the effects (or at least that is what they want you to believe- remember H1N1, SARS, Ebola, etc being hyped to proportions tantamount to a nuclear strike). But the age 88, is an interesting piece... ok I shut up now.

I have never owned a car and never will. I hate cars. If you decide to run from people and move to the suburbs, that's your problem. Learn how to get groceries from the grocery to the home like poorer people do. Suburbanites are not entitled to pollute atmosphere without their fair share of criticism. I have been a city dweller and I have been a country bumpkin. I carry groceries by hand. If you can't carry it you shouldn't be eating it. If it's too heavy, it's too much (there's a weight loss tip). Families with children over 5 should have their help carry them home; here in Switzerland, that's what I have seen. (Families with newborns and toddlers are exempt).

I have also notice that people who own cars are more likely to gain more weight. You walk less, move less, and sweat less. Cars are the most abused human creation on the planet. People who exercise more live longer on average anyhow. I rather see the demise of the car than the demise of the bike. I like being healthy and not participating in the destruction of our atmosphere.

Conclusion, Amen. People who argue for cars are intellectually lazy. It's amazing the poorest on earth tend live longer without the convenience of a car. This is only my opinion, though rather harsh, it's my planet too.

I have lived in and visited California. My impression of how the gay community went about gaining support is laughable and apparent to me. I am sure the 'twink' population was not interested nor was the older gay male population was not interested in educating the young ones. I can't speak for lesbians, but the rule of thumb is that they had their shit together. I also , believe gays tend to be bigots and elitists assholes, despite their Human Rights Campaign.

Many white and black gay boys/twinks/men are dismissive of blacks. Their attitudes and expectations of blacks, mainly derived from watching BET or Noah's Arc, is dismissive at best. Then many of the gay black men involved, remained invisible, afraid to confront his community, allowed it to happen. Thus helping to alienated one of the most visible and powerful voting bloc of the Californian electorate.

I don't speak for all my demographic representation, but my experiences have taught me that gays can be bigots too and this decision should be a wake up call to grow up. Ignoring African-Americans in election never worked. It's time the gay community learned that.

You know, I watched this video of Rick Santelli after watching Mark Haines blow his fuse over the White House plan to help people that made mistakes, stupid boneheaded mistakes... I agree that if you break it you should buy it. This seems a little too late for that, especially when the ones who are bitching about the "bailout", "socialism we can believe in", "moral hazard" benefited greatly when they took advantage of the "idiots", "low lives", "trash", and "losers". They don't want to be responsible for the rigged game that they help create, executed, and profited from.

No shame. Just none. I think they would be content when those so called "losers" start throwing out current tenants. I guess he would be content if neighborhoods turned into large barren and dangerous ghettos/hoods where crime will become the standard of living. From, this, I guess, if you screwed up, go to hell. Or maybe he lives in a gated community; locked in his own life raft.

But, boy will they start to bitch, when their home values fall through the frigging floor. Boy will they bitch when their bank has to shut it's door to them when they get laid off. Boy will they bitch when the state gov't has to shut down the school, downsize teaching staff, close police offices, fire departments, cut funding to highways, close libraries (once again), raises taxes or shut down public access utilities (water, road repairs, sewage, street lighting,etc) because of the lack of property tax revenue for decreased home values and increased foreclosures. California was just one vote away from exactly that, and they're the richest state in the US!

It's funny that the drunk drivers of this car wreck of an economy, with their drug (credit) addict passengers in tow, are ready to kick the passengers out of a speeding death trap so they can be proud of the car crash. Once out, surviving only because of their overdose level of alcohol, pointing to their dead passengers as the assailants who crashed the car. Not satisfied with passing the blame and avoiding any responsible, and is belligerent at the thought of accountability, walks over and urinates upon their wrangled bodies and body parts.

Mark Haines is angry that moral hazard was not considered. Umm, right.

Okay, it seems that Mark Haines would rather see his neighbors kicked out, or one of his family members booted to the curb (literally) in the name of moral hazard. I find it odd that he would even allow this to dribble out his mouth, moral hazard should have been his issue in 2000. I guess moral hazard only applies to the suckers who took the loans and not the sharks who worked their damnedest to get their bonuses. Or, it must not apply to the fact that our society is based on living outside our means, and not right-minded consumption.

The track record of the last part of TARP was a total failure when it came to the assistance of the American people. As for me, $350 billion is just enough to judge the out come of another $350 billion for same group receiving it. If the source of the credit crisis is the bad mortgages and toxic loans, why are we giving the money to the banks, why aren't we buying them up directly, bypass the idiots who got us here in the first place. The thing is that the sources of the dyer warnings about the collapse of the economy, on the condition of no government assistance, are the same asses who boldfaced lied to their shareholders, international partners, and the American and worldwide public about the state of their institution. Now we are suppose to believe them now, and just hand them over an award for such a monumental disaster, that they created? Are they insane?

Has anyone been paying any bit of attention? Iceland, the land of Bjork and Sigurros, has removed their PM, over their bankers (banksters). France is angry as hell (and with Wall Street and London, I might add). Lithuania and Latvia are just as discontent. The Swiss are holding their breath to see how big of losses the are about to have between 2-10,000 layoffs predicted, and $15-20 billion losses for the two of the largest Swiss banks. This financial bird-flu is straining our relationships abroad.

Why? Because the Wall Street know-it-alls sold them the same BS and butter that the American public has been freighten into believing with out a single thought being processed. Now our allies are angry with the U.S. for blowing it on coke, booze, and trash cans?!?!?!

Do I need another reason to quit? Well, I have been with out a cigarette for 2 months,(Gilles can verify). I really wanted to quit when the next day after dancing at a bar/club, out of guilt, I wanted to go the gym and the scent and odor of the smoke was all over my clothes. I feel embarrassed when I show up to a gym, smelling like a lit cigarette. I become ill after working out smelling smoke or remnants thereof. It made me even sicker if I had not smoked for awhile, like a week or so or if my hang over was in it's peak. Even now, just going to the a smoke filled bar gives me a turn of the stomach.
